MINUTES March 14, 2007

Meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm
Local artist, Karen Nichols, was announced as the winner of our t-shirt fundraiser logo design contest.
o A sample of Karen’s winning logo design was shown to the CERT members and Dayna Devlin presented Karen with a certificate recognizing her award.
o Jacquie Beveridge, our Publicity Director, will be submitting a press release and photo to the Siuslaw News.
Minutes from the previous meeting were read and accepted.
Treasurer’s Report

Officer Reports
o Chairperson – Dayna Devlin
Dayna reviewed the accomplishments of the current Board of Directors.
Dayna announced to the membership that the Rotary Club had donated $500 to be used to purchase supplies to create disaster kits that will be sold to the public as part of our fundraising efforts.
Dayna also announced that CERT had recently been awarded a $700 grant from the Western Lane Community Foundation to be used for such things as providing scholarships to the CERT Classes (covering registration fees), purchasing CERT training supplies and ham radio equipment, and setting up a high school CERT training program.

Jean announced upcoming Are You Ready classes
Looking for more Are U Ready Instructors (Consider Team Teaching)
Red Cross Shelter Operations Class training - June 23rd and 24th
Emergency Response Vehicle training coming up in July
o Advisor II (CERT) – Nancy Ruch
Nancy asked CERT membership to encourage everyone they know to signup for the upcoming CERT classes, starting April 2nd.
o Planning Director – Anne Machalek
Anne announced upcoming Fairs and requested volunteers to staff the booths.
Volunteer Fair: April 18th – Florence Events Center
Bi-Mart Fair: May 5th
Health Fair: May 12th – Florence Events Center
Planning disaster exercises at Coast Village end of June and Tsunami Evacuation exercise at Greentrees on Friday, November 30th to coincide with Tsunami siren test.
o Publicity – Jacquie Beveridge
Jacquie requested volunteers to signup for a Publicity Committee.
CERT members were requested to update email addresses by sending email to svfr_cert@hotmail.com
o Adviser I – Dave Davis
Dave announced upcoming 2-day Homeland Security Class to be conducted in Florence. Dave to provide more detail when available.
Citizens Corps Conference scheduled in Portland on June 1st – 3rd and is open to anyone in Citizen Corps Council.

New Business
o Dave Davis read a prepared statement regarding the organizational structure of CERT and the chain of command of the Board of Directors.
Dave expressed a concern that after recently reviewing the currently approved set of By-Laws some changes needed to be made.
o Chief Buchanan spoke to the group about the CERT structure of command in relationship to the fire department. He gave a brief history of CERT and the requirements that CERT have a community sponsor, which for Florence CERT, is the fire department. He shared how the fire department was integrated with CERT and how the two co-exist.
o Cal Crowe was recognized for his Outstanding Community Service in the field of Disaster Preparedness and was presented a plaque by Chief Buchanan.
o Signup sheets were routed around to signup for several events, volunteer positions and committees, including a request to form a Social Committee.
o Liz Iabichello announced that she had a few CERT shirts available for sale.
Dave Davis gave a PowerPoint presentation on USA On Watch for the remainder of the meeting, which ended at 8:45 pm with no official adjournment.
