CERT VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH
Dave Davis

CERT Organizer and Instructor, Dave Davis, started the Florence CERT Organization in 1999, after he and his wife, Rochelle, moved to Flortene Estates (Florence) in 1976. Before coming to Oregon, Dave grew up and lived most of his life in Reno, Nevada. After a four year stint in the Navy in California working with submarines among other duties, he worked for several years as a Service Manager for a heating and air conditioning company in Reno and later was a coordinator for a heating and air conditioning apprentiship school in Sparks, Nevada. Besides his work experiences, Dave did a lot of volunteering; serving as a Reserve Deputy for the Washoe County Nevada Sheriff's Office including their Hasty Rescue Team, the Washoe County Jeep Squadron and Captain of the Northern Division Coast Guard Auxiliary. Dave and his supportive wife have two children, Scott and Michelle. They have seven grandchildren. According to Rochelle, "he has more hobbies than Carter has pills"; including working with wood, wood carving, hunting, old & new guns, being a cowboy &  mountain man, camping (summer & winter), ham radios, ATVing, RVing, cooking and who knows what else. Overall, Dave (WA7MOE) and his wife Rochelle (KD7KJS) have been a real asset to the Florence area and especially our CERT Program. Congratulations to Dave and Rochelle Davis.

VICTIM PREP APRIL 2006 RODEO

“Pacific Peril”
Tsunami & Earthquake Exercise

Emergency officials from throughout the western U.S. and Canada will converge on Warrenton, Oregon for an unprecedented drill from May 23rd - 25th. “Pacific Peril” will be a multi-agency, multi-jurisdictional exercise hosted by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The exercise will simulate the impact of a 9.0 earthquake along the 800 mile fault known as the Cascadia Subduction Zone, followed by a tsunami, and will address emergency operations beginning at least 12 hours into the disaster. The purpose is to coordinate federal, state, and local emergency operations for initial damage assessments of transportation systems, staging areas for air, land and water operations, and support the delivery of mass shelter and care for the coast.

MESSAGE FROM THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE

All,

Lane County Public Health will be assisting with a US Postal Service Biohazard Detection System Exercise this June 20th in Eugene.  They would like to know if any CERT members would be interested in
participating.  It will require a commitment of around 4 hours 8-12 or 8:30 - 12:30 on Tuesday June 20th.  They do need some people who would be willing to wear a bathing suit under their clothes and actually go
through the decontamination process.

Any help with this is greatly appreciated.  If you are interested, please let me know and I will pass it along to our Public Health folks.
Once they have a good idea of how many CERT folks will be participating, more details will be provided.

Thanks,

Mark McKay
