VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARD

In an organization like CERT, it's always difficult to chose a Volunteer of the Year  because there are so many great people in our CERT program. However, I think most everyone would agree with this year's choice as deserving of this distinction as does Rochelle Davis. Rochelle does a lot of behind the scenes work for CERT from making coffee and providing snacks, putting on the accident victim makeup during our various emergency drills, to all of the other support she gives to this active organization and her husband. Plus she does it all with a big smile. And that's pretty good for someone who grew up as a "hobo". That's what her husband, Dave, affectionately calls her because she grew up in a fancy railroad box car. Her dad was a Bridge and Building Engineering Supervisor for the Southern Pacific Railroad and the company provided the apartment box car for the family in Susanville, California near the Nevada border. His route was basically between Susanville and Sparks, Navada. Rochelle came from a long line of railroad people from her step father to her Italian grandfather. Rochelle and Dave have two children, Michelle and Scott and seven grand children. She said when her children were in high school in the Reno area she spent about 15 years as an elementary school secretary. After Dave retired from the heating and airconditioning business in Reno, they moved to Florentine Estates in Florence where they became involved in the CERT program. Rochelle said her hobby is her husband Dave. Congratulations Rochelle for a job well done. You really do deserve Volunteer of the Year. Thank You!
