CERT EARTHQUAKE EXERCISE

A mock earthquake disaster drill will be held at Coast Village for all Florence CERT Members on Saturday, June 30, 2007 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Coast Village CERT will be hosting the event to assess our search and rescue skills, medical triage and rapid treatment techniques. The drill will also assess the ability of Coast Village to set up a viable Emergency Operations Center, good communications protocols, an acceptable internal victim transport system and a practical treatment center. Let's face it; Coast Village could become an important sanctuary in the event of an actual, real time emergency from "mother nature" or some other unfortunate event along the Central Oregon Coast. During the drill, we will be using volunteer victims living in Coast Village as well as making use of chosen residences and some needed equipment as if it were a real emergency. With patience and practice working together as neighbors, we can create an environment where we can feel safe and secure, espcially in the event of an emergency or disaster. CERT members are meeting every Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the Clubhouse Area in Coast Village to prepare for this event. Non-CERT members are encouraged to attend. A lunch consisting of a Subway sandwich, salad, desert and drinks will be served after the drill for $4.50. A pre-drill meeting will be held Thursday,June 28 2007, 6-8:30 pm at the Coast Village clubhouse. Someone will be at the front gate.We need you to sign up ASAP via email at svfr_cert@hotmail.com or call the Coast Village Office at 997-3312. Thank You! Cal Crowe, CERT Volunteer

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH
June 2007

DEBBIE GOLOB - CHAZ
chaz1.jpg

The June Volunteer of the month is a "behind the scenes" helper.  Debbie Golob has done a lot for CERT in a relatively short period of time.  She helped us create a better data program system, takes pictures at our CERT Class Rodeos and other activities, does our beautiful calendars for the web site and helps out in many other ways. Debbie Golob came to Florence four years ago from the San Francisco Bay Area.  Her mom and dad have lived here for the past 16 years.  She has a computer consulting business (programming, data recovery and data migration) with her husband Alan who is an electronics engineer.  Debbie's activities include photography and hiking, including an interest in plants, trees and the ocean environment.  She loves exploring the beaches and dunes with her  dog Chaz (Charlie), an Irish Wolf Hound/Airedale, who is an intragal part of her life.  Chaz is a retired service dog she trained.  Debbie said she learned of CERT through an ad in the Siuslaw Newspaper. Thank you Debbie Golob for your commitment to CERT.  All our volunteers keep us stronger and more viable.
