NOTES FROM DEBRIEF MEETING
Communications
1. Four radios had batteries that died
a.. Need to keep backup radio and fresh/charged batteries
b. Each team needs more than one radio
c. Each CERT member should have 2 radios
2. Team leader should use 2 radios – One to communicate with
Command Center
and One to communicate with team members
a. 3-Man teams should have 1 person as Communicator
b. If radios fail, Communicator becomes runner back to Command Post
c. Areas 9, 10 & 11 had "dead zones" causing broken communication
d. Greentrees should get GMRS license for extra antenna
e. Suggest using human relay in "dead zone"
f. Teams can contact each other to assist as radio relay
Transport
1. Extra radios should be with Transport
a.Use Transport to bring radios to replace dead or ineffective radios
2. Transport should be assigned to specific team
Safety
1. Always carry flashlight
2. Two people should always stick together
a. Do not split up teams for efficiency
Greentrees Issues/Concerns
1. Residents cannot hear sirens and did not hear Police bullhorns
2. Several residents claimed they did not know about the drill
3. There are no Evacuation Route signs inside Greentrees
4. Some residents said they would have participated if it was real
5. Need to identify people who may be sick or have dementia/Alzheimer’s
issues
6. Someone who called in advance for Transport was not picked up
7. Rhododendron is main Evacuation Route and will be jammed during
real emergency.
8. Total of 11 cars and 31 walkers were recorded
